SMM Brief on SHFE Zinc Futures (2014-6-30)

SHFE 1409 zinc contract prices opened at RMB 15,785/mt last Friday evening, then rose to RMB 15,815/mt before falling to RMB 15,760-15,780/mt, and closing at RMB 15,760/mt, down RMB 30/mt or 0.19%.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 30 (SMM) – SHFE 1409 zinc contract prices opened at RMB 15,785/mt last Friday evening, then rose to RMB 15,815/mt before falling to RMB 15,760-15,780/mt, and closing at RMB 15,760/mt, down RMB 30/mt or 0.19%.

SHFE 1409 zinc contract prices opened at RMB 15,760/mt on Monday, and then followed an upward track, while LME zinc prices only rose slightly. As a large number of longs entered the market, SHFE 1409 zinc contract prices hit a record high since February 28 2013, and closing at RMB 15,945/mt, up RMB 155/mt or 0.98%. Trading volumes surged by 53,664 lots, to 93,190 lots, and total positions increased by 21,822 lots to 174,936 lots.
