MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to government statistics, the pig iron exports by Russia surged higher during the month of April this year. However, exports to the US tumbled during the month.

Russia's pig iron exports totaled 140,000 tons during April this year. This is 31.8% higher when compared with the exports during same month the previous year. The exports to the US totaled 30,000 tons during the month, accounting for more than one-fifth of the total exports by Russia. The exports to the US during the month have dropped by 51.8% over the previous year. The pig iron exports to Taiwan totaled 26,000 tons, soaring by 568% when compared with the exports during the same month a year ago.

During the initial four-month period of the year, the Russian pig iron exports totaled 1.22 million tons. The cumulative exports during the Jan-Apr period went higher by 31.9% over the exports during the corresponding four-month period in 2013. During this period, the exports to the US totaled 699,000 tons, accounting for more than half of the total exports by Russia. The Russian pig iron exports to the US during the four-month period in 2014 surged by more than 396% over the previous year
