Southwire Company announced today that they are in the commissioning phase of an SCR copper rod system sold to Jinchuan Group Co., LTD. in China.

(Carrollton, Ga. – June 11, 2014) – Southwire Company announced today that they are in the commissioning phase of an SCR copper rod system sold to Jinchuan Group Co., LTD. in China. This is the second SCR® Copper Rod System purchased by Jinchuan Group Co., LTD., with the first system being purchased in 2007.

The contract calls for a SCR 7000 system, which is designed with a production rate of 48 tonnes per hour and is capable of producing 314,500 tonnes of 8mm rod per year. The project includes the design of all operating equipment, from a skip cart furnace loader to a finished rod handling system.

“We are excited that Jinchuan is expanding their copper rod capacity and that they have confidence in SCR Technologies,” said Will Berry, President of SCR Technologies. “We look forward to many years of collaboration.”

Southwire’s SCR team will be responsible for the design of the Southwire Furnace System consisting of a loader, melter, holding furnace and launder system, the casting machine, automatic metal pouring system, bar preparation unit, and computer monitoring system.  Southwire will supply all the equipment for these systems, except the fabricated steel assemblies of the furnace system.

Southwire will include a “No Twist”® Rolling Mill, the rod delivery and cleaning system, the rod coiling system and the conveying system supplied by Seimens Industries Inc. Southwire and Seimens Industries Inc. (formerly Morgan) have worked together for more than 40 years to supply state-of-the-art continuous rod systems to the copper and aluminum industries.

Southwire has sold over 80 continuous-cast SCR Copper Rod Systems worldwide. The SCR continuous-cast system is the world leader in ETP (electrolytic tough pitch) copper rod production by maintaining its ease of operation, low operating costs and high operating efficiencies in producing quality rod to meet international standards.  In addition to copper rod mills, Southwire also sells SCR systems to produce EC, electrical alloy, and mechanical alloy aluminum rod. Southwire operates four of its own SCR systems, including a copper SCR system in Carrollton, Ga., and three aluminum SCR systems in Hawesville, Ky. which produce EC, electrical alloy and mechanical alloy aluminum rod.
