Crude Steel Output by African Countries Fell 2.5% during Apr ‘14

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by the African region declined by 2.5% during the month of April year-on-year.

JOHANNESBURG (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by the African region declined by 2.5% during the month of April year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Algeria during April was 35,000 tonnes, falling sharply by 29.2% in comparison with the April 2013 production of 49,0000 tonnes. Egypt produced 520,000 tonnes of crude steel, down 0.8% when compared to 524,000 tonnes production achieved during April 2013. Libya’s crude steel output remained flat at 72,000 tonnes during the month of April this year. Morocco produced 51,000 tonnes of crude steel, marginally higher by 1.8% when compared to 50,000 tonnes production achieved during April 2013. South Africa’s crude steel output fell 2.4% from 610,000 tonnes to 595,000 tonnes year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Algeria during March this year was 35,000 tonnes. The output in April remained flat over the month.  Egypt produced 535,000 tonnes of crude steel in March 2014. The percentage fall in crude steel production in Apr ’14 over Mar ’14 is 2.80. The Moroccan crude steel output during March was 61,000 tonnes. The Apr ’14 output fell sharply by 16.39% over the previous month. The total crude steel production by South Africa during March this year was 615,000 tonnes. The country’s crude steel output in April recorded a drop of 3.25%. 

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first four months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
