US Raw Steel production edges up to 1,838,000 net tons

United States domestic raw steel production edged up by 0.3% year-on-year to 1,838,000 net tons in the week ended May 17th this year while the capability utilization rate was 76.4 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production edged up by 0.3% year-on-year to 1,838,000 net tons in the week ended May 17th this year while the capability utilization rate was 76.4 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,833,000 net tons in the week ended May 17th last year while the capability utilization then was 76.5 percent.

Production for the week ending May 17, 2014 is down 0.3 percent from the previous week ending May 10, 2014 when production was 1,843,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 17, 2014 was 35,770 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.1 percent. That is a 0.7 percent decrease from the 36,025 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.8 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending May 17, 2014 in thousands of net tons: North East: 227; Great Lakes: 627; Midwest: 226; Southern: 670 and Western: 88 for a total of 1,838.
