Inbound shipments of lead concentrate to the Port of Manzhouli went up 17.4% year-on-year to 41,600 tonnes in the first quarter, Inner Mongolia Commerce Department said on its website recently.

SHANGHAI, May 13 (SMM) – Inbound shipments of lead concentrate to the Port of Manzhouli went up 17.4% year-on-year to 41,600 tonnes in the first quarter, Inner Mongolia Commerce Department said on its website recently.

The sharp increase in imports was driven by market optimism towards battery demand, especially since the acceleration of 4G construction in 2014.

Imports of lead concentrate via Manzhouli port ranked 4th in China’s total imports during the first quarter of 2014, accounting for 10.66% of the total, it said.

Approximately 63.46% of arrivals totaling 26,400 tonnes were imported by private enterprises in Inner Mongolia, 1.79 times higher than a year ago. The rest was imported by enterprises from Henan, it added.
