Turkish Scrap Imports during Q1 2014 Rises Marginally by 1.2%

The most recent data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates that the scrap imports by the country were up 1.2% during the initial three-month period of the year.

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The most recent data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) indicates that the scrap imports by the country were up 1.2% during the initial three-month period of the year. This is upon comparison with the imports during the corresponding quarter in 2013.

Turkey's scrap imports during Jan to Mar '14 totaled 4.40 Million tonnes. The scrap import revenues during the period totaled $ 1.7 billion. The revenues registered a drop of 1.2% when compared with the corresponding quarter in 2013.

During Q1 2014, Europe was the largest scrap exporter to Turkey. The scrap imports by the country from Europe totaled 2.376 Million tonnes, accounting for almost 54% of the total imports by Turkey during the period. The second largest source of Turkish scrap imports was the US. The scrap imports by the country from the US totaled 894,000 tons during the quarter.

According to data, the scrap consumption by the country during the initial three months of the year totaled 7.28 million tons.

Turkey's scrap imports during the month of March '14 alone totaled 1.42 Million tonnes.
