TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Taiwan’s HMS 1/2 80:20 containerized scrap import prices (CFR Taiwan Port) decline by 0.8% week-on-week to $354 a ton in the week ended April 18th this year, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index.

According to TSI, scrap index for containerised Taiwanese imports of HMS #1&2 80:20 fell by $3 ton last week to finish at $354 a ton.

Strong buying by mills in recent weeks has resulted in them carrying large scrap inventories, meaning they are no longer in any hurry to secure scrap in large volumes.

Taiwanese mills were however able to source material from cheaper Asian sources last week, as they had built up enough US -origin material in previous weeks to be able to apply correct blends going forward.
