Chalco to Halt 600,000-tpy Aluminum Capacity, 800,000-tpy Alumina Capacity

Aluminum Corporation of China announced that it would suspend 600,000-tpy of its aluminum production capacity and 800,000-tpy of alumina capacity due to severe overcapacity in the industry.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 17 (SMM) – Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco) announced that it would suspend 600,000-tpy of its aluminum production capacity and 800,000-tpy of alumina capacity due to severe overcapacity in the industry.

The company planned to adopt “flexible production” to combat excess overcapacity in aluminum industry, it told Shanghai Stock Exchange today, saying low aluminum prices and high electricity costs were also behind the production cuts.
