North American crude steel output grew 1.4% y/y in December

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster) : According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries expanded by 1.4% during the month of  December year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Canada during December this year was 1.050 Mt, higher than the December 2012 production of 1.022 Mt by 2.8%. The US produced 7.197 Million tonnes of crude steel, higher by 0.4% when compared to 7.171 Million tonnes production achieved during December 2012. The total crude steel production by Mexico increased from 1.550 Mt in December 2012 to 1.625 Mt in December 2013.

Cuba and El Salvador recorded higher output year-on-year. The Cuban crude steel production jumped 28.8% from 23,000 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was 10,000 tonnes in December, surging by 92.3%. The country’s crude steel output during December 2012 was 5,000 tonnes.

Guatemala produced 30,000 tonnes in December 2013 lower by 8.3% when compared to 33,000 tonnes produced in December a year before. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago was also lower by 4.3% in December at 57,000 tonnes from 60,000 tonnes during same month 2012.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the whole year 2013 in comparison with those during 2012.
