BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster) : According to latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production for 65 member countries was 1,607.2 megatonnes (Mt) in entire 2013, 3.5% higher than the production during 2012.
The total crude steel production by entire European region during 2013 was 313.10 Mt, 2% down year-on-year. The EU-27 countries’ output fell by 1.8% over the year to reach 165.6 Mt when compared with 168.6 Mt in 2012. The output from CIS countries totaled 108.9 Mt in 2013, 1.8% down when compared with 111 Mt a year before.
North America too produced less crude steel in 2013. The production fell by 1.9% year-on-year to 119.3 Mt. The US crude steel output was down by 2% over the year. The South American crude steel output in 2013 totaled 46 Mt, 0.8% lower when compared with 46.4 Mt output in 2012.
Africa, Middle East and Asia clocked higher output in 2013. The African crude output increased by 4.6% year-on-year. The highest yearly growth in output was recorded by the Middle East region. The total output by the region surged 6.8% from 24.7 Mt in 2012 to 26.3 Mt in 2013. Asia too saw a 6% jump in its crude steel production.
The total crude steel production by Australia and New Zealand fell by 4.5% in 2013.
