SHANGHAI, Jan. 7 (SMM) – Chinese copper wire rod producers were not optimistic on their orders in January mainly considering arrival of the Chinese New Year holiday, according to SMM survey.
57% of Chinese copper wire rod producers expected orders to fall in January, noting that construction progress in north China has slowed significantly due to cold weather.
Migrant workers would return home for the Chinese New Year holiday in late January, also curtailing order books. As a result, these copper wire rod makers planned to cut production and focus on depleting existing stocks in January.
43% of copper wire rod producers predicted their orders would remain stable in January. These producers told SMM that their production in January would not be affected by the Chinese New Year holiday since the public holiday would not start until January 30.
Enterprises were expected to begin their initiate their new production scheme during the first month of their new fiscal year, and might not curtail output as long as consumption remained stable. However, these producers believed orders in February would be noticeably affected.
