China Manganese Ore Market Movement (2013-10-10)

Price Review & Forecast 02:15:15PM Oct 10, 2013 Source:SMM

SHANGHAI, Oct. 10 (SMM) –

Manganese Ore Market:
There were inquiries at ports on Thursday, but trading was muted. CML’s offers of manganese ore for November shipments were USD 5.50/mtu (L/C at sight) and USD 5.55/mtu (usance L/C), level with October. Flat offers by overseas suppliers and rising silicomanganese alloy prices turned manganese ore traders optimistic towards future prices. Some holders of Australian high-silicon manganese lump in southern ports have hiked quotations slightly.

Manganese Alloy Market:
Prices of non-standard silicomanganese alloy rose by RMB 50/mt over average on Thursday, tracking 65/17 and 60/14 silicomanganese alloy and due to supply shortage. Traders bought only on an as-needed basis against depressed steel market.

Steel Market:
Some regions in China have seen rising steel prices since early October, but most regions have reported little changes in prices. It is widely anticipated among market players that steel prices will remain weak throughout October. My-Steel data showed that inventories of five major finished steel (rebar, wire, hot-rolled plate coil, cold-rolled plate coil and M&H plate) in China’s trading markets totaled 15.29 million mt as of October 8. This marks a 623,800 mt increase from before the Chinese National Day holiday, but was markedly down from nearly 1 million mt surge seen in 2012.
