SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster) : The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association which met during the 47th Annual Conference held in Sao Paulo, Brazil has appointed Joon-Yang Chung, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, POSCO as the industry body’s new Chairman. Joon-Yang replaces Alexey Mordashov and will take office from Wednesday 9 October, 2013.
Prior to his election, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of POSCO Engineering & Construction. Joon-Yang Chung was President and Chief Operating Officer of POSCO from 2007 to 2008 and Senior Executive Vice President between 2006 and 2007.Joon-Yang Chung served as General Superintendent of Gwangyang Works for two years from 2004 to 2006. He also served as the Head of POSCO’s Europe Office based in Düsseldorf for four years from 1999 to 2003.
Since October 2007, Chairman Chung has also been serving as Chairman of the Korea-Australia Business Council. He was elected as member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea in February 2008 and was appointed as President in June 2011. He served as Chairman of the Korea Institute of Metals & Materials from 2008 to 2009. Joon-Yang Chung was appointed as Vice Chairman of The Korea International Trade Association and as Vice Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries in February 2009. Since March 2009, Joon-Yang Chung has been serving as Chairman of the Korea Iron and Steel Association and as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Steel Association. He was elected as Vice Chairman of the World Steel Association in Octobor 2012. He served as Chairman of the Large & Small Business Cooperation Foundation from December 2009 to February 2011
Joon-Yang Chung was also named ‘Steelmaker of the Year’ by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) in May of 2013.
