Downstream producers stepped up purchasing for the Mid-Autumn Festival, pushing EMM prices up.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 24 (SMM) –

Review:
Downstream producers stepped up purchasing for the Mid-Autumn Festival, pushing EMM prices up. However, any increase in EMM prices was limited since demand remained weak.

Forecast:
SMM’s survey found that operating rates at major EMM producing regions have risen to around 43% and look set to continue to edge up. Steel mills will build up stocks for the upcoming Chinese National Day holiday, but any growth in demand will be limited since order books at steel producers remain poor. SMM expects growing supply and weak demand to exert downward pressure on EMM prices. EMM prices are expected to hover near RMB 12,500/mt in the coming week.
