SHANGHAI, May 27 (SMM) – Data from China Customs showed that China’s silicon metal exports hit 59,055 mt in April, up 7.47% MoM and 73.58% YoY. The average export price in April also increased 0.27% from March to USD 2,062/kg, but dropped 19.34% from a year earlier.

Japan, South Korea, and Thailand remained the top three importers of Chinese silicon metal in April, with exports shipped to the three countries accounting for 38.83% of the total. Of them, exports to Japan were 11,190 mt, 18.95% of the total, those to South Korea and Thailand were 7,287 mt and 4,456 mt, making up 12.34% and 7.55% of the total, respectively. Exports made to other countries were 36,121 mt, 61.17% of the total.

China’s silicon metal exports were disappointing in January and February, but presented satisfactory performance since March, with the export volume remaining above 50,000 mt for two consecutive months. The rising exports may be the result of removed export duty and reduced smuggling, but the real recovery in overseas consumption was not seen yet.
