SHANGHAI, Apr. 25 (SMM) – Latest data from China Customs revealed that China’s silicon metal exports increased 47.31% MoM and 47.31% YoY to 54,948 mt in March, breaking through 50,000 mt for the first time since 2012. China’s silicon metal exports have remained between 29,000-49,000 mt since December 2011. The average export price for silicon metal dropped 2.09% MoM and 20.21% YoY in March.
The sharp increase in exports was mainly boosted by the signal for economic recovery and the removal of export tariff for silicon metal this year. Exports to Japan and South Korea – two major importers of China’s silicon metal – climbed 31.42% and 83.50% MoM in March. In addition, the export volume to Arab Emirates jumped 123.47% MoM to 2,914 mt, while exports to Thailand and India also hit 3,837 mt and 3565 mt, up 105.83% and 71.32%, respectively.
