SHANGHAI, Mar. 28 (SMM) -
Domestic market:
Spot manganese ore prices at Chinese ports fell back into correction, with the exception of South African high-iron manganese ore and selected high-grade manganese ore. The MB Hong Kong Conference, which will concludes today, failed to offer much surprise to markets. Investors are worried about high finished steel inventories and anemic demand for steel. Crude steel output fell 1% in mid-March, which will do little to ease existing mounting finished steel stocks, though. On the other hand, the pullback in crude steel output will lend some support to finished steel prices. Profit margin for mainstream imported manganese ore at ports plunged and overseas suppliers continue to hold offers firm, turning some Chinese buyers to non-mainstream goods.
Transactions:
Trading activity at both northern and southern ports were thin, as manganese alloy producers are bearish over future prices.
Profit margins for mainstream imported manganese ore fell sharply, causing traders who buy spot manganese ore at ports to step back. Manganese ore prices may rebound in the second half of this year.
