SMM data indicates that the combined exports of prebaked anode in Shandong, Henan and Guangxi, major prebaked anode production regions, hit 1.13 million mt during 2012, up 5.6% YoY.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 20 (SMM) – SMM data indicates that the combined exports of prebaked anode in Shandong, Henan and Guangxi, major prebaked anode production regions, hit 1.13 million mt during 2012, up 5.6% YoY. However, the export price was down 4.9% YoY to USD 636/mt.

In 2012, Shandong exported 864,000 mt of prebaked anode, Henan exported 104,000 mt, and Guangxi exported 162,000 mt, with export prices averaging USD 631/mt, USD 654/mt, and USD 624/mt, respectively.

China’s prebaked anode exports rose for a fourth straight year in 2012. Prebaked anode exports in the above-mentioned three provinces hit 653,000 mt back in 2009.

SMM believes continuous commissioning of aluminum capacity in China and growing demand from overseas aluminum smelters were the major reasons behind growing prebaked anode output in China.

Prebaked anode prices are falling and it takes a longer time to collect payment in China, whereas prices are relatively stable and payment is made more quickly though exporting. With Chinese carbon plants getting a deeper knowledge of international markets, they will be more willing to engage in export trade.
