Scrap Copper Utilization Rate Up Slightly in December

SHANGHAI, Jan. 22 (SMM) – According to the latest SMM survey, scrap copper utilization rate at major Chinese copper plate, sheet, strip and foil producers was 24.49% in December, up slightly by 0.61% from the previous month.

The price gap between scrap and refined copper during December expanded noticeably from November, and the average price gap between bare bright (including tax) and refined copper was RMB 1,029/mt, up by RMB 490/mt from November. Nevertheless, in the face of tight scrap copper supply, the scrap copper utilization rate at the surveyed producers did not increase significantly in December.
