SHANGHAI, Jan. 22 (SMM) –
Environmental Protection Reviews Certify 12 Companies
The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has released a list of the 12 companies that qualified under its environmental protection reviews conducted last June, September, and December.

These first 12 enterprises represent 20.12 million kvah in polar plate processing capacity and 16.6 million kvah in battery assembly capacity. Eight are located in Jiangsu, 2 in Hubei, and one each in Jiangxi and Henan. China’s leading battery companies, including Tianneng Power, Chaowei Power, East Penn, and Camel Group, all made the MEP’s first list. Chaowei Power actually had two plants in Qinyang, Henan on the list.

Operating Rates at Secondary Lead Smelters Edge Lower in December
SMM’s survey of 12 major domestic secondary lead smelters shows an average operating rate of 59.40% during December, down 0.56 percentage point from the average 59.96% in November.

The average operating rate at large smelters was down 2.55 percentage points to 76.67%, while the average at medium smelters fell 1.99 percentage points to 43.30%. The average operating rate at smaller smelters staged the biggest decline, falling 6.75 percentage points to 56.52%.

Deliverable Goods Transferred to Tianjin, Guangdong and Jiangsu
SHFE data from January 16 revealed SHFE lead inventories were nearing 100,000 mt after surging by 8,818 mt early last week. Most cargo holders in Shanghai reported difficulty delivering goods in the Shanghai area, so they sent goods instead to Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, as well as to Tianjin.
