China’s imports of alumina rose to 543,200 mt in November, up 139.32% YoY, and at an average CIF price of USD 357.52/mt.
According to China Customs, China imported 12,640 mt of primary aluminum during November, down 42.1% YoY and 74.2% MoM. The SHFE/LME aluminum price ratio fell to near 7.5 after entering October, which was unfavorable for primary aluminum imports and caused aluminum ingot imports arriving in November to fall sharply.
China exported 240,000 mt of aluminum semis during November, up 4.3% YoY and 9.1% MoM. Two reasons were behind the growth in aluminum semis exports. First, the SHFE/LME aluminum price ratio fell, favoring aluminum semis exports. Second, domestic producers will suspend production for the Chinese New Year holiday, so overseas clients placed orders in advance of the holiday.
