SHANGHAI, Dec. 18 (SMM) – With regard to copper tube/pipe orders for December, the latest SMM survey of 21 domestic copper tube/pipe producers revealed the following insights:

The survey showed that the average operating rate at these producers is expected to increase 1.34% MoM to 72.46% in December.

Around 71% of the surveyed copper tube/pipe producers expect their December orders to maintain November levels. In their views, air conditioner producers generally prepare for sufficient refrigeration pipe stocks at the year's end for the coming year's exports, but markets are downbeat about the outlook. Besides, copper tube/pipe orders were not seen to increase noticeably following copper price rebounds. Hence, there is high likelihood that copper tube/pipe orders during December will hold basically flat with the previous month's levels.

Roughly 19% of producers are optimistic over the outlook, expecting that air conditioner producers will replenish stocks at the year's end. But these producers do not hold high anticipation on the increase of copper tube/pipe inventories since a real turnaround may be seen after the Chinese New Year.

The remaining 10% of producers are pessimistic. Some of them said water pipe orders will negatively impacted by the severe weather, while others hold the view that orders will decrease as copper prices increase.
