Chile's Copper Exports Grow to $3.86 Billion in November

Chile's copper exports in November jumped to $3.86 billion from $3.71 billion in the same month last year on higher international prices for the industrial metal, the central bank said Friday.

Dec 07, 2012 (Dow Jones) -- Chile's copper exports in November jumped to $3.86 billion from $3.71 billion in the same month last year on higher international prices for the industrial metal, the central bank said Friday.

Chile produces one third of the world's copper, which accounts for about 60% of the country's exports and 15% of gross domestic product.

During November, copper averaged $3.49 a pound, according to state copper commission Cochilco's market data, versus $3.42 a pound in November 2011.

Overall, the country's mining exports, including molybdenum, iron, silver, iodine and lithium, increased to $4.20 billion in November from $4.05 billion from the year before.

In 2011, copper exports rose 6% year-on-year to $42.63 billion, while overall mining exports grew 9% year-on-year to $48.15 billion.
