SHANGHAI, Jun. 28 (SMM) – The Lead-Acid Battery Industry Entrance Requirements (Draft for Comment) issued in March bans the production and sale of batteries containing cadmium as of December 31, 2013. In response, Fujian’s Yaheng Power Technology Company has discontinued the use of cadmium in production beforehand to eliminate any negative influence on the environment, its production or consumers.

Yaheng began technological upgrades towards a “cadmium free” process in 2010, both to comply with environmental protection requirements and to assume a leading role in the industry’s development. The project was completed and entered operation in June 2011. The Entrance Requirements clearly stipulate requirements pertaining to cadmium-free production, which is already the direction in which the battery industry is developing, as key to reduction of waste water and gas discharges, helping improve the environment.

Through its technological upgrades, Yaheng has become a frontrunner with the cadmium-free process. Its new cadmium-free batteries have garnered approval among its consumers for their durability since going on sale in December 2010.

SMM notes that enterprises should keep an eye on long-term development against mounting environmental protection pressures. Yaheng shows that market recognition comes from improving production and proactive compliance.
