SHANGHAI, Apr. 20 (SMM) -- Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO) Shanxi Branch’s 500,000 mt energy-saving alumina project enters trial operations today, with the branch’s annual alumina capacity reaching 2.7 million mt.

SMM sources report that the construction of CHALCO Shanxi Branch’s 500,000 mt alumina project started on June 3, 2011. The project represents a total investment of RMB 836.33 million and is expected to be completed in September 2012. The project includes five sub-projects – raw material grinding, autoclave dissolution, red mud settling separation wash, seed decomposition and mother liquor evaporation – by virtue of existing facilities, which can effectively promote the comprehensive utilization of existing mineral resources, extend the service life of the mine, and reduce the composite energy consumption by 10% on the basis of improving the level of technology.
