The recent NPC and CPPCC sessions, one of China’s major political and economic bellwether, brought “new glimmers” to the gloomy home appliance industry.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 19 (SMM) -- China’s home appliance industry achieved brilliant results following the introduction of home appliance into the countryside and home appliance replacement policies in 2009. However, with the withdrawal of these policies in 2011, when will new policies be initiated this year? The recent NPC and CPPCC sessions, one of China’s major political and economic bellwether, brought “new glimmers” to the gloomy home appliance industry.

■ 1. Stimulus Policies Expected to Continue

Many enterprises said they hope the home appliance subsidy will be continued. Delegations to the National People’s Congress also expressed their desire of maintaining stimulus policies. Consumption of home appliances has been weak since the conclusion of home appliance into the countryside and home appliance replacement policies. In this circumstance, China’s home appliance industry is in urgent need of new stimulus policies to promote consumption and tide over the current difficulty,

■ 2. Furnished Low-Income House to Develop New Market

Delegations also suggested basic home appliances should be provided for low-income houses. Once adopted, the proposal will not only bring more benefits to residents, but also develop new market for home appliance industry.

■ 3. Environmentally Friendly Home Appliances Become New Focus

As new energy resources are attracting more attention and are more favored by consumers, environmentally friendly home appliances utilizing renewable energy are becoming the new focus of the industry.

■ 4. Industrial Regulations for E-Commerce to Be Introduced Sooner

China’s E-commerce has been developing at a high pace, with major operators including BOE, Suning and Dangdang starting to blossom over the past two years. However, the immature logistics industry, customer service and product quality remain the consumers’ major concerns. Thus, delegations suggested the promulgation of industrial regulations for E-Commerce should be accelerated so as to secure the sound development of the industry.

■ 5. Speed up Industrialization of Electronic Waste Recycling

Pollution caused by waste computers, televisions, semiconductors and other electronic waste is becoming more severe with the development of China’s economy, making electronic waste a major solid waste impossible to neglect. During the NPC and CPPCC sessions, delegations’ proposal concerning to policies and expenditure on electronic waste recycling will likely speed up the industrialization of electronic waste recycling.
