BEIJING, Feb 21 (Reuters) - China imported 710,701 tonnes of iron ore from Iran in January, down 25 percent from the previous month, data from the customs authority said on Tuesday.
Traders said earlier this month that they were likely to import less from Iran amid concern that sanctions against the country could disrupt deliveries and payments.
Imports in January totalled 59.32 million tonnes, down 7 percent from December, with deliveries from top supplier Australia falling 8.5 percent to 26.83 million tonnes.
Ore sourced from India declined to 4.49 million tonnes, down 5 percent from December and 49.5 percent from a year earlier.
However, shipments from Brazil reached 15.4 million tonnes, up 16 percent compared with the previous month.
The three biggest iron ore producing countries supplied 78.7 percent of China's total imports over the month, up from 74.7 percent for the whole of 2011.
