Global Copper Market In 69,100-ton Surplus In 2011

LONDON, Feb 15, 2012 (Dow Jones) -- The global copper market was in surplus by 69,100 metric tons in 2011, the World Bureau of Metal Statistics said Wednesday.

This compares with a deficit of 175,000 tons in 2010.

The WBMS said global consumption in 2011 totaled 19.509 million tons, compared with 19.365 million tons in 2010.

Chinese apparent consumption rose by 496,000 tons to 7.914 million tons, accounting for just over 40% of global demand, it said.

Refined production meanwhile increased by 2% to 19.58 million tons, the WBMS said.

LONDON, Feb 15, 2012 (Dow Jones) -- The global copper market was in surplus by 69,100 metric tons in 2011, the World Bureau of Metal Statistics said Wednesday.

This compares with a deficit of 175,000 tons in 2010.

The WBMS said global consumption in 2011 totaled 19.509 million tons, compared with 19.365 million tons in 2010.

Chinese apparent consumption rose by 496,000 tons to 7.914 million tons, accounting for just over 40% of global demand, it said.

Refined production meanwhile increased by 2% to 19.58 million tons, the WBMS said.
