Total imports of scrap aluminum from the US were 54,851 mt in July, down 19.02% YoY, and down 6.52% MoM.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 1 (SMM) -- According to China Customs, China’s imports of scrap aluminum from the US, the largest scrap aluminum exporter to China, fell significantly during July. Total imports of scrap aluminum from the US were 54,851 mt in July, down 19.02% YoY, and down 6.52% MoM.

SMM sources report that some scrap aluminum suppliers in the US began summer holiday in 3Q, and scrap aluminum supply declined sharply during this period, with goods available for exporting to China falling in response. In addition, the start of seasonal low-demand period for secondary aluminum in China also directly caused US’s exports of scrap aluminum to China to decrease in July.

Lower demand and supply caused US’s exports of scrap aluminum to China to fall significantly during July, and SMM sources show that China’s imports of scrap aluminum fail to recover significantly during August, and will improve during September.
