SMM China Al Output Data Analysis April 2011

SHANGHAI, May 30 (SMM) --
Alumina:
According to the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA), China’s alumina output was 2.99 million mt during April, with an annualized capacity of 36.32 million mt, up 1.47 million mt compared with March. Continuous gains in output were attributed to the commissioning of new alumina capacity in Shandong province.

Aluminum:
According to the CNIA, China’s aluminum output was 1.45 million mt during April, with an annualized capacity of 17.66 million mt, up nearly 1 million mt compared with March levels, and up 660 kt compared with February levels. These results were in line with SMM’s previous forecast. The growth of aluminum output in May will slow slightly since no new aluminum capacity in northwest China came online during April or May.
