Mar. 17 -- Provisional data released by Indonesia’s trade ministry showed February exports of refined tin at 6,181 tonnes, valued at US$171.1 million. The volume was down 6.7% on February 2010, but because of surging tin prices the value of sales rose by more than 70% year-on-year. The drop in tonnage was attributed to adverse weather conditions.
The ministry figures are based on tin checked prior to export by surveying companies and appear many months ahead of official customs data. The rolling twelve month average of tonnage checked for shipment is 92,607 tonnes according to ITRI’s records.
