SHANGHAI, Feb. 14 (SMM)--Treatment of waste water containing heavy metals dumped into the Xiang River made significant progress prior to the Chinese New Year, which is of great importance to the Yangtze River valley.
Zhuzhou Smelter Group Company, China’s largest lead and zinc smelter, and located along the middle and lower reaches of the Xiang River, was able to cut waste water and heavy metal emissions into the river by 90%.
The Zhuzhou Smelter maintained operations during the Chinese New Year holiday, and reports lead and zinc output hit a record high of 600,000 mt/yr, but waste water is no longer released into the Xiang River.
“The total output of our company increased by over 40% compared to five years ago, but waste water and heavy metal emissions were cut by 90%” according to Zhou Jiancheng from the publicity department of Zhuzhou Smelter Group.
