Nov. 4 -- Bolivian state tin producer Empresa Minera Huanuni (EMH) will carry out the expansion of its tin complex since the second tender for the project was declared void late last month, an official from the mining and metallurgy ministry (MMM) told BNamericas. "The government decided that the company itself will be in charge of buying the equipment and building the plant," the official said. The final decision will be made at a board meeting on November 3, the official added. The project will expand ore processing capacity from a little over 1,000 tpd to 3,000 tpd.

The first tender launched by the government to build the plant and provide equipment for the expansion of the complex was declared void in July because the sole bidder did not have proven experience. This time around, the process was cancelled because the two bidders - Conalco Srl and Vicstar Machinery - did not submit investment guarantees corresponding to 1% of their respective proposals. Bolivia’s La Razon newspaper reported that EMH plans to go ahead alone as it has US$50 million of capital financing assured and has qualified personnel able to manage the project and minimise disruption to existing operations.
