NEW DELHI, Jul 07, 2010 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) -- India's mines ministry has approved a copper-ore prospecting license for state-run Hindustan Copper Ltd. (513599.BY) in Rajasthan province, Chairman Shakeel Ahmed said Wednesday.

The license has been approved for 36.07 square kilometers in the north-western state's Sikar district, Ahmed told Dow Jones Newswires.

In India, a state needs to seek approval from the federal mines ministry before allocating a prospecting license for minerals such as copper and iron ore.

"We expect a formal letter for a prospecting license to be issued by the Rajasthan government in over a week's time," Ahmed said.
