SMM Insight 05:48:03PM Jun 28, 2010 Source:SMM

SHANGHAI, Jun. 28 (SMM) -- A recent SMM survey of 19 producers (total capacity 249.3kt) revealed the following insight. According to SMM statistics, May operating rates at silicon metal producers in Sichuan province were 36.5%, up 5.1% MoM.

May is the transitional month between low-water period and high-water period, and operating rates recovered slowly in April MoM, however, more and more producers began to resume production as of May 20th. According to SMM sources, local producers told that current electricity price charges are RMB 0.05/kWh higher than high-water period electricity charges. SMM believes that operating rates in June will climb up further, despite that electricity pries are adjusted and it still takes time for production recovery.
