SHANGHAI, May 14 (SMM) -- SMM reported the news in the previous edition of CBMB that the US initiated preliminary anti-dumping duties on copper pipe and tube imports originating from China and Mexico. The tariff for Chinese products is between 10.26-60.50%, and for Mexican products between 29.52-32.27%.  Hailiang Group, one of leading copper tube and pipe producers in China will be levied on 58.69% for products being exported to the US. 

Hailiang Group, the second largest copper tube and pipe producer in China exported 15,479 mt in 2008, accounting for 10.52% of total sales.  In 2009, the company exported 10,701 mt, occupying for 7.18% of the total. 

Copper tube and pipe is mainly applied in air conditioners freezing and construction sector.  Last October, the US copper tube and pipe producers, led by Cerro Flow Products jointly filed anti-dumping duties petition with the US Department of Commerce on September 30, 2009.  According to the schedule, the US Department of Commerce will make its final determinations in September 2010.  

Concerning the preliminary determinations, Hailiang Group said the construction of its 71 kt/y copper and copper alloy tube production line has been completed in Vietnam, with trial production underway.  In this context, Hailiang Group will shift its export order to the US to production base in Vietnam, to reduce negative impact on exports from the US’s anti-dumping duties.
