BEIJING, Apr. 12 -- Fifty thousand new-energy autos, including battery-only vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and plug-in vehicles, will be produced in China by the end of 2011, according to the Plan on Adjusting and Revitalizing the Auto Industry.

The Central government plans to subsidize purchases of new energy autos, said Miao Wei, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, at this year's meeting of the National People's Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Local governments in Chongqing and Shenzhen have also made plans for subsidies.

Some domestic companies, such as BYD Co Ltd, Chery Automobile Co Ltd, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp and Byvin Corp, have developed new energy autos or will unveil new models in the near future.

New energy autos have become a trend as the Chinese auto market expands and global awareness of the importance of conserving energy spreads.
