BEIJING, Mar. 11 -- China's retail sales totaled RMB 2.5 trillion in the first two months of this year, up 17.9% year on year, said the National Bureau of Statistics today.
The growth rate was 2.7 percentage points higher than in the same period of last year, and 2.4 percentage points higher than in 2009.
Total retail sales in urban areas were RMB 2.08 trillion, up 18.4% from a year earlier, while retail sales in areas at or below the county level rose 15.5% year on year to RMB 430.4 billion.
Sales of retail goods rose 17.9% from a year earlier to RMB 2.23 trillion, while retail sales from the catering industry increased 17.3% year on year to RMB 280.6 billion.
