- PV applications market activated Polysilicon industry reinvigorated

12, 10-11, 2009 I Shanghai, China

Event Background

In 2008 and 2009, polysilicon industry of China had a roller-cloistering time. In 2008, spot price surged up to a record high of USD 480 / kg due to the short supply in the market. At that time, there were over 50 polysilicon projects in progress all over China. In 4th quarter 2008, the good days were gone as a result of the global financial meltdown. Huge losses were encountered by polysilicon producers as well as downstream PV cells makers who had previous stocked up too much feed stock. The launches of polysilicon projects were postponed.

Government stimulatives were put forward all over the world in 2009. Obama administration encouraged America's development of new energy sources; European countries implemented more preferential policies for solar energy. China promulgated a series of policies to support PV industry, e.g. solar roof subsidy, planning of huge PV power plants in Dunhuang, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, the Golden Sun Program announced in July, etc. The renewable energy law of China is expected to be announced before the end of this year. There will likely be more and more solar bidding projects. The confirmed biddings in 2010 will amount to 2GW.

While the financial crisis is not over yet, downstream demand becomes increasingly robust.
How is the status quo of polysilicon industry in the world? How about the trend? How will PV industry progress? Will the boom of the PV market in China further boost the demand for polysilicon? The 2nd Global & China Solar Polysilicon Congress 2009 will be a gathering of businesses, science community, and polysilicon experts from all over the world. Here, they will map out the future of the industry.
