SHANGHAI, Feb. 27 (SMM) --
Nickel Ore:
According to China Customs, nickel ore imports were 507.3kt during January, down 58.98% YoY. Lateritic nickel ore imports were 433.8kt, with 89.2kt from the Philippines, down 56.05% YoY.  Imports from Indonesia were 344.5kt, down 64.4% YoY. It is now the rainy season in the Philippines, and the weather is having a negative impact on nickel ore transportation, resulting in fewer imports.  Declines in nickel ore imports from Indonesia were due mainly to falling demand for high-grade nickel ore from continuous production cuts and stoppages at domestic smelters using electric arc furnaces.
Refined Nickel:
According to China Customs, refined nickel imports were 7,622mt during January, down 40.63% YoY. Refined nickel imports declines were due mainly to market pessimism, as well as the unfavorable domestic/LME price ratio during January, which did not recover until late January.
