SMM News on May 9:
From May 3, 2025 to May 9, 2025, the weekly operating rate of secondary lead in four provinces tracked by SMM was 37.65%, down 4.81 percentage points WoW. Arrivals of scrap batteries were sluggish, leading to a shortage of raw materials at most secondary lead smelters. Some smelters halted their furnaces for heat preservation, while others suspended production for maintenance. This week, the operating rates in Anhui, Henan, and Inner Mongolia regions all declined significantly, while the change in the operating rate in Jiangsu region was relatively small on a WoW basis. Given that the tight supply of raw materials and significant loss pressures are unlikely to ease in the short term, it is expected that the operating rate of secondary lead may continue to decline next week.
