Conference Background

01

In recent years, Southeast Asia has gradually emerged as a crucial link in the global automotive industry, brimming with abundant supply and demand opportunities, thanks to its unique geographical advantages, rich resources, and vast consumer market. As a regional leader, Thailand has attracted the attention of numerous Chinese NEV manufacturers. Since 2012, SAIC has collaborated with the Charoen Pokphand Group to establish production sites in Thailand, followed by the entry of Chinese automakers such as Great Wall Motor, BYD, and Neta Auto into the market. Meanwhile, power battery enterprises like Gotion High-tech and SVOLT Energy Technology, as well as parts enterprises such as Exceed Precision Manufacture, have also set up factories in Thailand, further promoting the coordinated development of the industry chain.

Despite the promising prospects, Chinese automakers face numerous challenges in the Thai market, including labor shortages caused by an aging workforce and low birth rates, as well as stringent localization requirements imposed by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI). Additionally, the instability of import tariffs and related trade policies poses risks to market operations.

To address these challenges, Chinese automakers should optimize their human resource allocation, prioritize employee training and welfare to enhance employee satisfaction and loyalty. Simultaneously, they should actively respond to BOI policies, establish close cooperative relationships with local suppliers, increase the proportion of local procurement, promote technology transfer and talent cultivation, thereby reducing production costs and enhancing the stability and flexibility of the supply chain.

Despite the challenges, Chinese automakers still hold significant value-added opportunities in Southeast Asia. By closely monitoring policy changes and strengthening communication and cooperation with local governments and industry associations, Chinese automakers can accurately grasp market dynamics, mitigate market risks, and ensure stable development in this emerging market.

Against this backdrop, the 2025 SMM 2nd Southeast Asia Automotive Supply Chain Conference will be held in Bangkok. We sincerely invite industry elites to join us in exploring these challenges and opportunities, and working together to drive the prosperity and development of the automotive industry in Southeast Asia and beyond.
