The mandatory national standard "Energy Consumption Limit per Unit Product of Coal-Fired Power Generation Units" (GB21258-2024) officially took effect on April 1. After the implementation of the standard, the average coal consumption in the coal power industry is expected to drop below 302 grams of standard coal per kWh by 2030, cumulatively saving approximately 60 million mt of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 160 million mt. This will achieve significant energy-saving and carbon reduction effects, strongly supporting the power sector's carbon peak and even the national carbon peak goals. Coal demand will further decrease, and the industry is about to enter the traditional off-season, leading to a further weakening of market expectations.
