The SHFE/LME price ratio fluctuated around 8.1 this week, with the zinc ingot import window remaining closed. Overseas, the US is expected to impose additional tariffs on copper imports, driving a significant surge in copper prices and pushing up non-ferrous metal prices. However, the US subsequently imposed a 25% tariff on imported cars, with reciprocal tariffs expected to take effect on April 2, raising concerns about a global manufacturing slowdown. This led to a decline in market risk appetite and a drop in LME zinc prices.

SMM March 28 News: This week, the SHFE/LME zinc price ratio continued to fluctuate around 8.1, with the zinc ingot import window closed. Overseas, the US is expected to impose additional tariffs on copper imports, triggering a sharp rise in copper prices, which drove up non-ferrous metal prices. However, the US subsequently imposed a 25% tariff on imported cars, with reciprocal tariffs expected to take effect on April 2, raising concerns about a global manufacturing slowdown and a decline in market risk appetite, leading to a drop in LME zinc. Domestically, inventory decreased at the beginning of the week, and influenced by rising copper prices, SHFE zinc fluctuated at high levels. Later, domestic ore TCs rose above 3,400 yuan/mt (metal content), coupled with another increase in sulphuric acid prices, boosting smelter production enthusiasm and delaying routine maintenance, resulting in a decline in SHFE zinc. With the overseas market outperforming the domestic market, the SHFE/LME price ratio continued to fluctuate around 8.1. It is expected that the SHFE/LME ratio will be difficult to improve next week.
