SMM Secondary Refined Lead Weekly Review: Discount for Recycled Lead Supplies Widened, Smelters Entered Loss Territory SMM March 21: This week, imported lead arrived at ports, with traders offering self pick-up prices at a discount of around 200 yuan/mt against the SMM 1# lead average price. Some secondary lead smelters made small purchases, and a few downstream battery producers indicated that they could receive imported refined lead at a slight discount against the SMM 1# lead average price.

SMM 3/21 News: This week, imported lead arrived at ports in batches. Traders' self pick-up quotations against the SMM 1# lead average price were at a discount of around 200 yuan/mt. Some secondary lead smelters made small purchases, and a few downstream battery producers indicated that they could receive imported refined lead at a slight discount to the SMM 1# lead average price. Domestic secondary lead smelters also widened their discounts to promote sales, with ex-factory prices for refined lead including tax in north China ranging from 75-0 yuan/mt below the SMM 1# lead average price, while discounts in Hunan and Guangxi reached 200-150 yuan/mt. As of March 21, 2025, the mainstream ex-factory price for refined lead including tax across the country varied between 17,150-17,300 yuan/mt. During the week, arrivals of scrap batteries were poor, leading smelters to raise procurement prices to restock; with selling prices dropping and raw material costs rising, profits for secondary lead smelters were shrinking, and some even reported entering a loss-making state. As of March 21, 2025, the theoretical profit and loss value for large-scale secondary lead enterprises was 112 yuan/mt, while for medium and small-scale secondary lead enterprises, it was -109 yuan/mt.
