Overnight Copper Prices Fell Sharply, Morning Trading Slightly Rebounded [SMM Shanghai Spot Copper]
[SMM Spot Copper] During the day, mainstream standard-quality copper was quoted at a discount of 20 yuan/mt to on-par prices against the front-month contract, while high-quality copper was quoted at on-par prices to a premium of 20 yuan/mt. Downstream orders slightly improved during the day, but finished product inventories at plants still need to be cleared, and sentiment in spot trades remained weak. As the last trading day of the SHFE copper 2403 contract approaches, spot premiums are expected to fluctuate rangebound around parity.
Overnight copper prices saw a significant pullback, and downstream restocking sentiment slightly improved compared to the previous day. Suppliers continued to stand firm on quotes near parity. At the beginning of the session, mainstream quotes for standard-quality copper were at a discount of 30 yuan/mt to a discount of 10 yuan/mt, while high-quality copper was quoted at a discount of 10 yuan/mt to a premium of 10 yuan/mt. Some suppliers sold at lower prices but did not lead the market downward, as mainstream supply quotes remained firm. During the main trading session, standard-quality copper was transacted at a discount of 20 yuan/mt to a discount of 10 yuan/mt, while high-quality copper traded at a discount of 10 yuan/mt to a premium of 20 yuan/mt. Hydro copper was traded at around a discount of 80 yuan/mt. By 11:00 a.m., market quotes remained stable, with high-quality copper quotes staying elevated, and the price spread between imported non-registered cargoes and standard-quality copper continued to narrow.
During the day, downstream orders showed some recovery, but finished product inventories at factories still needed to be cleared. Overall, spot trading sentiment only slightly improved. As the last trading day of the SHFE copper 2403 contract approaches, spot premiums are expected to fluctuate rangebound near parity.

러시아 우도칸, 양극재 생산 개시…연간 구리 총생산 15만 톤 목표
외신 보도에 따르면 러시아 우도칸 구리는 2026년 9월 2일 러시아 극동 자바이칼스키 지방의 습식제련 공장에서 구리 음극 생산을 시작했다. 음극의 구리 순도는 99.99%다. 이 프로젝트는 2023년 9월 구리 정광 생산을 시작했으며, 음극 생산 가동으로 광석 채굴부터 정제 구리까지 통합 밸류체인이 완성됐다. 음극 생산은 당초 2024년 2분기 시작 예정이었으나, 2023년 12월 화재로 음극 설비 일부가 손상됐고 서방 제재로 인해 피해 설비 교체가 복잡해졌다. 프로젝트 1단계는 구리 정광과 음극 형태로 연간 최대 15만 톤의 구리 함유량을 생산하도록 설계되었으며, 주로 러시아 내수 시장과 기타 아시아 시장을 대상으로 한다. 15만 톤 수치는 구리 함유량 기준 통합 생산량을 의미하며, 음극 단독 생산능력으로 해석해서는 안 된다. 우도칸의 신규 음극 생산은 러시아 극동 지역의 정제 구리 공급을 늘릴 것이나, 단기 물량은 생산 확대 속도, 물류, 제재 관련 제약에 따라 달라질 것이다. 회사는 기존에 2단계 가동 후 총 구리 생산량을 연간 약 55만 톤으로 늘릴 계획이었으나, 프로젝트 일정은 여전히 지켜봐야 한다.
