Chinese New Year Holiday in Downstream + Logistics Suspension Lead to Significant Increase in Primary Lead In-Plant Inventory [SMM Primary Lead Inventory Weekly Review]

SMM reported on February 7: According to sources, as of February 7, the in-plant inventory of primary lead major delivery brands stood at 30,600 mt, an increase of 27,000 mt compared to January 24.

During the Chinese New Year, most primary lead smelters did not suspend operations. Except for some enterprises conducting equipment maintenance, other medium and large enterprises generally maintained normal production. However, downstream enterprises mostly took holidays, and with logistics halted during the Chinese New Year, smelters faced difficulties in reducing in-plant inventory. As a result, lead ingot inventory increased significantly during the holiday, peaking at nearly 40,000 mt. Additionally, after the holiday, lead prices rose sharply, leading to weak purchasing enthusiasm from downstream enterprises. Some smelters had to transfer inventory to social warehouses to alleviate in-plant inventory pressure.
