Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a nanofiltration technology that promises a significant improvement in aluminum production efficiency while effectively reducing the generation of hazardous waste. This technology can process waste from aluminum plants and recover aluminum ions that would otherwise be lost in wastewater. The recovered aluminum can be reintroduced into the aluminum production process, not only reducing waste but also helping to increase overall production. More importantly, using the recovered aluminum in aluminum electrolysis produces almost no excessive byproducts, and the electrolysis speed remains unchanged.
