Operating Rates of Primary Aluminum Alloy May Decrease During Chinese New Year [SMM Analysis]

According to the SMM survey, the operating rate of China's primary aluminum alloy industry in December was 55.05%, down 1.2 percentage points MoM, continuing to fluctuate rangebound.

December and November are both traditional off-season periods. Many primary aluminum alloy enterprises reported no significant changes in production and order volumes MoM, while a few reported a decrease in orders. However, to fulfill liquid aluminum alloying tasks, alloy plants with reduced orders generally did not lower their operating rates.

With the Chinese New Year approaching in January, almost all alloy enterprises expect a decline in order volumes. Some enterprises also indicated that they would slow down production during the holiday and reduce operating rates. The operating rate of the primary aluminum alloy industry in January is expected to decline significantly to around 49%.
